200813Brian Corradetti (Mooloolah, QLD)

G’day Allan,

What an awesome segment, helping all those people who need help. Giving is just what the world needs, it’s great.

Anyway, my name is Brian Corradetti. I live at Mooloolah Qld, and I drive a Mitsubishi dual cab diesel ute Triton. It’s a great vehicle, but at the moment I’m having dramas with the automatic 4WD hub locks.

When I start the engine, the hub light indicator comes on, so I put it in 4WD and then take it out again in order to switch the indicator light off. When I go 4WDing on the beach, I put it into 4WD and it locks, but when I start hitting the soft sand or mud I get stuck because it jumps out of 4WD.

I’ve taken my car to the mechanic, but he seems to think it could be an electrical issue, because it locks fine according to him.

So maybe you can give me some advice?

Allan

Brian, any time a hub jumps out a potentially dangerous situation can develop. I wouldn’t muck around with a safety issue like that and I’d certainly get the problem solved before tackling any hilly, High Country-like trips.

I’ve always had difficulty in trusting the reliable operation of an auto-locking hub in an over-run situation. I’ve had too many bad experiences with this type of thing. In your case I’d advise fitting a pair of manually locking hubs from Terrain Tamer, just give us a call and let us know the year of your vehicle.
