Bob

Hi Allan, I’ve just purchased a 1998 Ford Courier 4WD with the diesel engine and flat tray. It’s a good vehicle but when I use the air conditioning it seems to suck heaps out of the engine power and guzzle fuel.

Can I change to a modern more efficient compressor and if so what would you suggest? Any advice appreciated.

Allan

Bob I often drive the same vehicle you describe and I do not notice any change in the fuel economy with the air on. I’m inclined to suggest that you arrange for a mixture check on a dynamometer which may show up a problem. Make sure you switch the air on and off during the test. I don’t think changing to a different compressor would help at all.
